Our nation deserves no less

The actions that took place on Wednesday at the US Capitol were appalling and inexcusable. Hate was proudly displayed by the mob who sought chaos and disruption.

This was an insurrection against our democracy, against our free and fair elections, civil society, free press, the rule of law, and the peaceful transition of power.

I am calling on Congress to impeach and remove Donald Trump immediately. Our nation deserves no less.

Donald Trump's rhetoric and actions have also emboldened those who would engage in violence right here in Oregon. This week, we saw similar violent actions at the Oregon State Capitol. It must stop.

As law enforcement pursues those who committed crimes, elected officials have a responsibility to recommit ourselves to the democratic ideals of honesty, respect, and dialogue.

Tomorrow, I have the honor of being sworn in as the Majority Leader in the 81st Oregon Legislative Assembly. We have real issues we need to talk about - from COVID, to public safety reforms, to environmental protections - and I want to hear from you.

I'd be honored if you'd join me at one of these virtual town halls this week:

Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m.

I'll be joined by State Rep. Rachel Prusak, Lake Oswego Mayor Joe Buck and West Linn Mayor Jules Walters. Reserve your spot now!

Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m.

I'll be joined by Multnomah County Commissioner Sharon Meieran, U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, and State Rep. Andrea Salinas. Reserve your spot now!

I hope to see you at one or both of the town halls.

Our democracy thrives when we respectfully discuss our concerns to work through differences and solve problems. I look forward to hearing from you this year and throughout the upcoming legislative session.

Onward,

Rob
